The Faces of RiverMead: Dottie Wagner
Dottie Wagner has called RiverMead home for over nine years, now living our assisted living neighborhood and embracing every aspect of her life here. Originally from Baltimore City, Maryland, Dottie grew up in a vibrant urban environment, enjoying the city's energy, the sense of community, and the convenience of having everything just around the corner. When her family suggested a move to New Hampshire, Dottie was hesitant at first but was soon pleasantly surprised by how much she came to love her new home.
Shortly after her move to New England, Dottie found a welcoming group of friends who introduced her to RiverMead. The more she got to know the community, the more she realized how well it mirrored the qualities she had always cherished—convenience, a strong sense of community, and the vibrant lifestyle that had once made Baltimore feel like home. RiverMead quickly filled the void that had been left by her past years in Maryland, offering not just a new place to live but a refreshed outlook on life, set against the beautiful backdrop of New Hampshire’s stunning landscapes.
Though Dottie was familiar with RiverMead through her new connections, it was here that she truly discovered the depth of the relationships that could be formed and the strong sense of belonging that would become such an integral part of her life. One piece of advice she often shares with those considering a move to RiverMead is this: “You will belong.” Had she known how deeply connected she would feel, Dottie often says she would have moved here much sooner.
Today, Dottie is certain she is exactly where she needs to be. She feels fulfilled, happy, and well cared for, describing her life at RiverMead as simple and stress-free. “Things are easy here,” she says with a smile, knowing that RiverMead has become the family she can depend on for support, camaraderie, and a sense of security.
Dottie’s journey began in Maryland, where she was inspired by her mother to pursue a career in nursing. She loved every aspect of nursing—the joy of helping others, making meaningful connections, and improving the lives of those around her. These same qualities have followed her into her life at RiverMead, where she continues to foster deep connections with fellow residents, always offering support and encouragement when needed.
One of Dottie’s greatest joys at RiverMead is the sense of community she’s felt from day one. She knew almost immediately that she had found her true home. Along with the fulfillment she derives from connecting with others, Dottie’s love for learning continues to thrive in this nurturing environment. She takes full advantage of the opportunity to attend classes and engage in a wide range of topics, always eager to expand her knowledge and feed her intellectual curiosity.
Beyond education, staying physically active is also a priority for Dottie. One of her favorite activities is participating in the “Strong Seniors” exercise class, which has become an essential part of her routine. After downsizing, Dottie was initially concerned about maintaining her physical health, as she no longer had the daily household tasks that kept her on her feet. But these exercise classes quickly filled that gap, providing her with the movement and vitality she needed to stay active and healthy. Dottie’s commitment to maintaining her physical and mental well-being is a testament to her positive outlook on life and the way RiverMead has helped her continue to thrive.
For Dottie, RiverMead is more than just a place to live—it's a true extension of her family and community. It’s a place that has allowed her to continue growing, learning, and living a vibrant, fulfilling life. Her experience here is a reminder of how much one can flourish when surrounded by a caring community, ample opportunities for personal growth, and the peace of mind that comes from knowing you’re in the right place. Dottie’s journey, from Baltimore to New Hampshire, reflects the power of finding the right environment where one can truly belong. RiverMead has provided her with everything she ever wanted and more: a sense of purpose, strong friendships, and a lasting connection to the people and place she now calls home.
